The UN Sustainable Development Goals – the 17 pieces of the world’s most important puzzle

In one of our last iNsight posts, we had our youth intern Kirstine Aavik giving her thoughts on the future. In this post, she mentioned the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The UN SDGs are key performance indicators for the UN in terms of how the countries, companies, and peoples of the world are doing in relation to 17 defined targets.

The UN SDGs are one of the key results of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, in 2015 these were adopted by all the United Nations Members.
The focus of the goals is to combat poverty, inequality, improving healthcare, increasing economic growth for all, education for everyone. At the same time, they focus on handling climate change and preserving our planet’s ecosystems. All these issues are of course closely interconnected.

Our planet’s future is our collective responsibility. Even though 1 of the UN SDGs alone cannot secure global prosperity, it will make an impact. When you put all the 17 goals together, and we all pull in the same direction, we can truly achieve results much greater than the individual efforts. The goals provide a great platform for getting companies and nations involved in the way that they can contribute best.

“Coming together is a beginning, staying together is progress, and working together is success.” Henry Ford

In the coming weeks, we will highlight the UN Sustainable Development Goals that are relevant to NEMS. We will highlight the importance of these goals and shed some light on how we do our part in helping achieve these goals.

Key issues today related to Greenhouse Gas emissions and Ocean pollution are key elements in ensuring a better future for our coming generations.
